DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson admitted it was a missed opportunity as the Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw at Yate Town on Saturday, enforcing their FA Trophy first round replay this evening at the Clayson Stadium (7.45pm).

Ben Seymour’s first goal in his first appearance since signing for the club initially handed Dorchester the lead after 75 minutes, but Ben Brooks headed in to equalise for the Bluebells five minutes later.

Thompson said: “I am confident in the way we play but obviously it is a little bit of a missed opportunity and every game is different.”

Dorchester dominated the match at Yate, yet despite numerous more chances than the Bluebells, could not convert enough to seal victory.

“Although I am confident, if you said to me on Saturday that tonight we will eight or nine chances and they will have two or three, I would say yes I will take the odds on that but as it has shown on Saturday it does not always win you the game.

“It can sometimes lose or draw the game.”

The introduction of Aaron Rodriguez after 69 minutes seemed to immediately pay dividends, as he fired wide a minute after coming on, and created Seymour’s goal after 75 minutes.

Thompson said: “He came on and had an impact on the game. He created the goal and also had two chances himself to get a winner.”

Fortunately, Dorchester boast a clean bill of health ahead of the match, although Thompson did admit that his side have picked up a couple of knocks.

Thompson said: “I think everyone is pretty much alright.

“We do have a couple of minor knocks but nothing that should keep people out for tonight.”
