A DEPLETED Weymouth and Portland side will be looking to make the most of the opportunity to blood fringe players when they visit Salisbury Seconds tomorrow (3pm).

The Seahorses, who are fifth in the table, face a Salisbury team who are second from bottom with one point all season.

Seahorses’ coach Anthony Cowburn, said: “We have actually lost quite a lot of players this week and we are struggling to field a team.”

The problem comes from a mixture of injuries and unavailabilities throughout the squad.

Craig Geldard and the Hayne brothers are all missing, while some unnamed others will also be unavailable for the Seahorses.

Cowburn added: “We don’t want to slip back into where we were last season, so we want to commit to all of our games regardless of what standard of team we put out.”

Cowburn is confident the match will go ahead however and looks forward to seeing the fringe players being given the limelight.

Cowburn said: “Now they can actually start the game and prove their worth in being selected outright.

“It is their chance now for the fringe players to show me as the coach, why they should be pushing for selection.”
