BRIDPORT 3

WELLINGTON 0

BRIDPORT confidently swatted aside Wellington 3-0 to rise to 14th in the table, with goals from Kameron Andrews, Leighton Thomas and Mark Salter securing the victory in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

Salter’s strike was the pick of the bunch, confidently curling in a sweet 25-yard free-kick past Josh McLean in the Wellington goal.

The Bees had started well, with golden one-on-one opportunities from Thomas and Salter, before the former put a header over the Wellington bar from three yards out.

However, Bridport went in 0-0 at half-time with Wellington having held them at bay, but the Bees got an early break in the second half.

Andrews finished a great move after Andy Martin fed Matt Condliffe from a free-kick, who then flicked it to Andrews on the edge of the box to drill the ball into the far corner of the net after 47 minutes.

The Bees then doubled the advantage with a ball down the right-hand side. A challenge from Salter enabled Thomas to latch onto the ball and lob the onrushing McLean to score.

Salter then ended the game with a fantastic free-kick that cannoned in off the crossbar after 79 minutes, with 3-0 the full-time score.

Bridport travel to bottom-of-the-table Shortwood United on Saturday (3pm).
