BRIDPORT Reserves have seen their Dorset Premier League derby clash with Dorchester Sports postponed due to a waterlogged St Mary's Field pitch.

A decision to call off the game was made early this morning (Saturday), with thundery showers overnight causing several large areas of standing water to appear on the playing surface.

Officials at Bridport have worked hard on improving drainage at St Mary's Field, particularly during the summer, but the fixture is the first to fall foul of the weather since the Bees endured a catalogue of postponements last season.

Both sides had been seeking to bounce back from defeats, the Bees having lost 7-1 to Hamworthy Recreation last time out, while Sports were defeated 2-1 at bottom side Sturminster Newton United.

Shaun Annetts' Bridport will next face Hamworthy Rec in the Dorset Senior Trophy on Saturday, while Sports again tackle the Cherries, this time at the Clayson Stadium.

Other matches involving Weymouth, Dorchester Town, Portland United and Bridport, Balti Sports and Portland United Reserves currently remain on.
