PORTLAND United Reserves are aiming to bag their first double of the season when they entertain Parley Sports at the Weyline Stadium in the Dorset Premier League (2pm) today.

The Blues’ seven-league-game winning streak was brought to an end last Saturday at Holt United, that run included a superb 4-0 win at Parley Sports back in September.

Looking ahead to the game, Portland manager Justin Faulkner said: “We have done very well so far this season but now is a different type of test as the teams we beat in the first games will be working even harder to get some sort of revenge on us for those defeats.

“I expect Parley will be the same scenario as Saturday at Holt, we need to make sure we are up for it and prepare properly, if we do that we could record our first double of the season.”

The Blues are currently fourth in the table after a storming start to their debut season in the Dorset Premier League with 29 points from 16 games so far.

Parley are two points and one place behind the Blues, albeit having played a game more.

Faulkner admits his side’s form cannot be seen as a surprise anymore however.

He said: “We are not so much of a surprise now.

“We have played all of the teams in the league bar one so I am sure they will have learned a lot about us from the previous meeting, but we continue to evolve and we might have a few surprises up our sleeves still.

“I think the other teams see what we are doing and are now respecting us for that where as previously they were taking us lightly.”
