DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson hailed a “clinical” performance from the Magpies as Gosport Borough were put to the sword in a 4-1 Evo-Stik Southern Premier South triumph.

Two goals from Ben Seymour, either side of Josh Bailey and Harry Kite strikes, handed Thompson’s men a handsome margin of victory after former Weymouth man Tony Lee had equalised with a stunning turn and shot.

The Magpies scored four goals away from home for the second time this season after a 4-2 win over Wimborne Town back in August and the result moves Dorchester into 18th, level on points with the former and Boro.

Speaking to Echosport after the fully-merited success, Thompson also credited his defenders following what he described as a “solid” display.

He said: “We were quite clinical. Out of six chances we put in four. That was nice because we’re not always clinical – we have created chances before and failed to score a few times.

“That was good and again, I thought we looked reasonably solid at the back.

“There’s a slight mistake for the goal but they didn’t have too many other chances.

“Kingsley (Latham) made one good save in the first half and one near the end when it was 4-1, so I’m pleased really with the all-round performance.”

Thompson reserved praise for Seymour, whose brace extended his goalscoring tally to nine in nine games since joining on loan from Exeter City.

He said: “He’s been scoring all along. He’s just continued in a fine vein of form and he’s got (nine in nine) for us, which is pretty phenomenal, really.”

Seymour will however be an absentee for the clash against Staines tomorrow, the striker beginning his three-game ban for a sending off against Weymouth last week.

Thompson said: “It’s a big blow, but there’s nothing we can do about that. It’s happened and we have to live with that. We have to take it on the chin.”

Giving his assessment of the match, Thompson added: “The first half was pretty even, we went in at 1-1.

“I think we pretty much dominated the second half after the first 10 minutes. We had our shooting boots on and were very clinical with our chances.

“It’s a good win, obviously against a team down near around us.

“I felt we were going in quite confident. We’d won two and drawn one of our last three games.

“We would have liked to have played better in the first half, it was a little bit scrappy, but it was a pretty even game with two teams both competing quite well.

“I’m very pleased with the result and with the performance as well.”
