PORTLAND’s Leon Warburton earned victory by beating Charlie Wadman (Avalon) on points as Weymouth Boxing Club held their December show before a sell-out crowd at the Weymouth Pavilion.

The Weymouth club had three new boxers in the ring: Noah Drummond, his brother Flynn Drummond and Lewis Grainger but only Noah avoided defeat, with a no verdict result.

Flynn Drummond lost out to Owen Tate, while Grainger fell to Tommy Doran from Ferndown.

Ryan Grubb from the Grey Ranks Boxing Club managed a split points win over Jack Tilling, while Oliver Carr from Weymouth was beaten by Kyle Hunt.

Archie Nash fell to defeat against Tyler Cooper in the one blemish for Portland.

Three Dorchester boxers also entered with mixed results.

Rowan Milroy saw a no verdict end to his fight with Charlie Farwell, from Portland, while Connor Kirk beat Jack Hughes on points before Charlie Gardner fell to Danil Vena.

Club president David Nelmes said: “We would like to say thank you to all of the clubs for attending and for matchmaker Mark Ford for putting on a good night of boxing for which our punters were grateful.

“Also many thanks to Sean Cooper of Weyfish for supplying and picking winners for best boxer, best Weymouth boxer and best bout of the evening.

“All the committee members and especially the youngsters wish to extend a massive thank you to Brian Honnor, who is now retiring, for his loyalty and dedication to the club in his role as treasurer and committee member for the last 20 years.”

There were also awards for Ford and England boxing coach Dominic Davey.

Nelmes added: “We also had two awards for people are in the background who keep the club going,

“Mark (Ford) boxed for the club for many years before joining the Services and when he came back to Weymouth he rejoined the boxing club and has been a great asset taken over match-making for this and the last show. The other coach is Dominic Davey who also is a England coach, who wanted to box but had a small problem so it was our luck that he took up coaching and what a great asset he has also been.”

Davey was presented with the Gordon Nelmes Shield, which he will hold for one year.
