DORCHESTER TOWN 6

Carmichael 18, Blair 35, 57, Diaz 57, 68, Murray 72

DORCHESTER Town trounced a pitiful Staines Town 6-1 in their Evo-Stik Southern Premier South clash at Wheatsheaf Park.

Braces from Antonio Diaz and Tom Blair followed Ross Carmichael's opener, while Cameron Murray rounded off the Magpies' scoring with a belting long-range strike.

Thomas Gogo pulled one back for the league's bottom side, finishing a chance against keeper Kingsley Latham when clean through.

Swans' gloveman Louis Dixon also palmed away a Blair penalty, while Callum Rose hit the bar on his 50th Dorchester appearance as the dominant away side chased a seventh.

This was another eye-catching away performance from Dorchester, who extended their unbeaten run in regulation play to five matches in all competitions.

A positive display was also indicative of a side who now boast the fifth-best away record in the league and had the luxury of making just one enforced change to their line-up as winger Blair came in for suspended striker Ben Seymour.

The Magpies also named dual-registered duo Ash Pope and Josh Williams on the bench alongside Rose and Aaron Rodriguez, who earned a place in the matchday squad having sufficiently recovered from a broken wrist.

Despite the absence of the in-form Seymour, there were encouraging early signs for an ever-threatening Dorchester going forward.

Murray hared into space down the wing and put in a teasing cross that just evaded a stretching Blair.

Sam Jackson then collected the loose ball and shot at Dixon’s goal only to see his effort drift narrowly wide.

After a bright opening, the visitors were rewarded with a goal from one of their more unlikely sources.

Staines conceded a corner and the delivery exploited an inability to clear in the Swans’ defence, allowing Carmichael to touch home from close range for his second career Magpies goal.

Dorchester continued to dominate following the opener and moments after a rare sight of the target for the hosts, who shot over, Steve Thompson’s men had their second.

With Staines again failing to defend a corner sufficiently, Diaz’s delivery was met by a stooping Blair, who bravely nodded a decisive touch beyond Dixon to double the Magpies’ lead in the 35th minute.

Dorchester, fresh from a confidence-boosting 4-1 win away at rivals Gosport on Saturday, were now brimming with energy and claimed their second goal in the space of two minutes.

Kyle Egan was the provider for the diminutive Diaz to guide a header goalwards, the Spaniard’s effort squeezing inside the near post past a despairing Dixon to register a commanding 3-0 half-time advantage.

New Swans' manager Barry Silkman rung the changes at half-time in a bid to get back into the game, taking off Gabriel Piorkowski and Timothy Obisanya for Joe McEvoy and Yiannis Constantinou, but it was the visitors who struck next.

More disastrous defending from Staines saw hesitancy and poor communication from their centre-backs, enabling Blair to steal possession, round Dixon and finish superbly from an acute angle.

A minute later, Dorchester were awarded a penalty but this time Dixon stood firm, pushing clear Blair's effort to deny the teenager a hat-trick.

Rose replaced captain Neil Martin to make his milestone Dorchester appearance on the hour, shortly before Diaz had a header ruled out for offside.

But Diaz would soon nod a fifth goal for the rampant Magpies as a wonderful Blair cross picked out the midfielder to bury a crisp header on 68 minutes.

A dreamy situation became even sweeter for Dorchester when Murray scored arguably the goal of the game four minutes later.

In typically hard-working fashion, Murray robbed Staines of possession, drove forward and unfurled a dazzling long-range shot past a helpless Dixon to score his fifth goal of the season.

Murray and Harry Kite then made way for Pope and Williams to earn valuable match minutes but there was still time for Staines to ruin the Magpies' clean sheet.

A defensive mistake allowed Gogo to sneak in for a one-on-one chance and beat Latham for a barely consolatory goal in the 89th minute.

Dorchester's third successive league win moves them into 15th, level on 22 points with Kings Langley, Gosport and Hartley Wintney.
