WEYMOUTH have progressed to the second round of the FA Trophy after Needham Market withdrew from the competition this morning.

The Terras had been set to face Market in their first-round clash tomorrow, after the first attempt on Saturday was postponed.

Weymouth's originally scheduled match against Methyr Town tomorrow in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South was discussed by the league in terms of potentially still playing the fixture, but it has since been decided to rearrange the match for a time in the new year.

Needham Market, based near Ipswich, had booked a hotel in Poole on the Friday evening prior to Saturday's scheduled clash.

The Marketmen have since decided to withdraw from the competition after the FA advised them that the rescheduled match was to take place on Tuesday at Weymouth.

The Terras will now be in the hat for the FA Trophy second round draw today (12:45pm).

In a statement made on their website, Needham Market said in a statement: "With apologies to all our supporters we regret to record that we have been forced to withdraw from the FA Trophy.

The correspondence below details our proposals for rearranging the fixture but unfortunately our request was summarily dismissed as it "contravenes Rule 11 (c) (1)".

"We consider that it is completely unreasonable to attempt to play this fixture on Tuesday 18th December."
