ALEX Adams saw two second place finishes as Castle Cove Sailing Club held their last two races of the Winter series.

In chilly winds of 16 to 24 knots, 15 hardy souls in 13 boats competed on Sunday in these final races of the 14-race series; the first race of the series was on November 4.

The penultimate race was won by Mike Fenwick, in an International Canoe, with Adams, in a Moth, coming close behind in second.

The winner of the final race was Rob Smith in his Contender, with Adams, in his Moth, again finishing second while Smith was also the series champion.

This year's Winter Race Series was rather hampered by severe weather, particularly high winds and six of the planned 14 races were cancelled due to weather.

Despite this, Smith really dominated the series, coming first in four of the six races he competed in and second or third place in the remaining two.

After the race, a Punch Party in the Clubhouse was hosted by the Commodore, Neil Stroud.

Stroud thanked everyone for coming, bringing generous amounts of food, and helping out with the arrangements for the party.

Stroud said: β€œIt was good to see the last race of the winter series actually taking place in view of some very bad weather of late.

"The club has had a really good year both on and off the water, with many events taking place and many improvements/maintenance to the buildings and facilities.

"I would like to thank the many volunteers this year who have made this possible.”
