MARK Molesley was full of praise for his side winning in ‘typical Weymouth fashion’ but also heaped compliments on Dorchester Town after the Terras’ 1-0 win in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Brandon Goodship won the match late on, after Kingsley Latham could not keep hold of Yemi Odubade’s deflected shot, allowing Goodship to tap in.

Molesley said: “We have done it in typical Weymouth fashion, we have left it late near the end but we kept going.”

The Magpies clearly impressed the Weymouth boss, who did not look like conceding with Latham having a fantastic game and deservedly named man of the match.

The first encounter between these two sides this season ended 5-0 to Weymouth, but the Magpies looked nothing like the side that were torn apart back in August.

Molesley said: “It was a tough game, these derbies are no gimmes, Dorchester are vastly improved from the start of the season, what a good side they are.

“Very energetic and a good young energy about them and it was a toe-to-toe clash.”

Molesley admitted that perhaps for the neutral they may have wanted to see more goals, but put that down to Latham’s performance in the Dorchester goal.

Molesley said: “I thought it was a great Boxing Day game, I suppose for the neutral they want to see a few more goals but it was only 0-0 due to what a fantastic display from their goalkeeper who rightly so took man-of-the-match.

“He thwarted us time and time again.

“Fortunately we got the breakthrough right at the end and it shows again the impact from the subs that made a difference.

needed the result, with the Terras having gone two games in the league without a win, following the 3-1 loss at home to Gosport Borough, followed by the 2-2 draw with Harrow Borough on Saturday.

Molesley said: “I’m delighted with the three points, we needed that.

“We had a bit of a catastrophe against Harrow on Saturday, where we were 2-0 up and cruising but a couple of crazy moments has cost us three points there and it was important we reacted quickly and to get three points and a clean sheet in the derby was a great way to do that.”

The goal came late on, in the 90th minute, with both sides having had great chances to win the match.

Firstly, Goodship had a shot rebound off the underside of the bar and back out, before Dorchester hit the post through Sam Jackson in the second half.

When asked if he ever doubted that they would come away with a win, Molesley replied: “No not with us not at all.

“I was on the sideline saying to the boys just relax, keep doing it keep moving the ball, keep doing the things that we have practised because we always score late.

“We always do.”

Speaking about Goodship’s earlier chance in the first half that he missed, due to it bouncing back off the underside of the crossbar, Molesley said: “I think it was one of them, he made a great run across the near post, timed it perfectly, got a good contact on it, you almost think it is nestling in the net but somehow it has hit the bar and bounced back down and stayed out somehow.

“He is obviously disappointed because he is a top marksman but it just shows you he did not give up, he kept his focus and was in the right place at the right time.”

When asked if the gap is closing between the two sides, Molesley replied: “Definitely.

“They are vastly improved, they have got a real good energy about them. Thommo (Steve Thompson) has recruited well.”
