PORTLAND United boss Brendon King has urged the Blues to display the “right attitude” against struggling Cowes Sports in their Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division tussle at the Weyline Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

King’s men currently lead the chase of runaway table-toppers Sholing in second, while Cowes occupy 18th some 21 points adrift of the islanders.

Portland are in excellent form having won all seven of their previous seven games in all competitions since a 7-1 loss at the hands of Poole Town in the Dorset Senior Cup.

And King has called for a continuation of the Blues’ good habits to avoid dropping points against the Isle of Wight side.

He told Echosport: “It’s going to be a tough one – most people expect us to win the game, and so do we. You’ve got to go in with the right attitude that we’ve gone in with the last few games.

“If we go about our business right, then I’m sure we’ll come out with a positive result.

“It’s no good going to places like Hamworthy and beating teams like that then slipping up because you’re not prepared right against teams that are lower down the league.

“It’s going to be a tough old game for them as well. We beat them (3-0) at their place earlier in the season so we’ll be looking to do the double.”

Commenting on the streak of seven wins, King added: “The boys are playing well.

“We’re going into it full of confidence, some of the football we’ve been playing is really good and it was nice to keep a clean sheet in our last game.”

Sean Stewart (illness) and Steven Walker (suspension) return but long-term absentees Shaun Bessant and Ed Bastick (both abdomen) plus Lewis Clarke (ankle) remain out.
