THREE arrowsmiths picked up coveted awards at the end-of-season Bridport & District League awards night.

Terry Prowse claimed the highly-prized player of the year trophy, while Elaine Knight collected the award for best ladies’ player.

Sam Kapur also received recognition, sweeping up the young player of the year accolade.

Elsewhere, the league held two competitions in aid of cancer research at Dorset County Hospital, raising a healthy total of £204.

In the over-50s’ tournament, Bridport superleague star Graham Knight took a 3-1 victory in legs over Lyme Regis champion Rob Millward in the final.

A 3-1 scoreline was also good enough to claim success in the under-25s event as PDC Development ace Kieran Spurdle won for the third year running, this time beating Bridport superleague man Shane Parker to claim the spoils.

Speaking to the Bridport News, league chairman Reg Pitcher praised the level of play seen – particularly in the under-25s’ event.

He said: “The standard of play is pretty high because people come in from Dorchester, Weymouth, Bridport, Lyme and play as an open competition.

“We do get some good players from all around to come and play in that one.

“The cheque’s gone off to the hospital and we’ve had a letter back saying ‘thank you’.”
