DORCHESTER’S first team entertain third-in-the-table Walcot in their first home game of the new year tomorrow (2.15pm).

With no win since the first weekend in December, the county town side are in a precarious position in the Wadworth 6X Southern Counties South table.

The team will be keen to turn over the early season away defeat to Walcot and attempt to climb away from the foot of the table.

Captain Adam Makepeace is still out injured, and Greg Hallett comes in to the second row joining Steve Tucker to replace him.

The experienced Tom Gower comes into the back row whilst Louis Vekaik takes up the scrum-half role looking to control the play.

Last weekend’s try-scoring debutant Jack Chatfield will start from the bench this week, along with Josh Ovey and Cameron Wills.

Eral Anderson, joint head coach with Martyn Peel, is unfortunately stepping down from his role due to a change in personal circumstances, and both Peel and club chairman Nick Hodge thanked him for all his hard work this season.

However, he will be helping out on an occasional basis with some specialist backs coaching.

Dorchester’s A XV take the short trip to Lytchett Minster in Dorset & Wilt South Two, looking to keep the momentum going with another win and remain on top of the table.

Tonight sees an RFU initiative with three local social sides from Dorchester, North Dorset and Weymouth competing in a three-way fun night of rugby.

Short games of 30 minutes for the occasional social player played in old school good spirit will no doubt see many smiles, followed by many aches on Saturday.

Dorchester Vandals have been resurrected for these social evenings and Tony O’Connell will lead out a team consisting of young and old including the highly experienced John Elliott, Iain Adshead and Tim Beavis.

Games kick off at 7pm for a good old school evening of fun rugby.

Two of the county town’s successful junior sides take to the pitch on Sunday morning with the under-13s entertaining Oakmeadians in the Dorset & Wilts Cup whilst the under-16s take on Swanage & Wareham in the same competition.
