DORCHESTER Athletics Club’s rising star Molly White stormed to a brilliant bronze medal in the 60m hurdles at the South West Championships in Cardiff.

White’ achievement was followed up by Katie Evans, who achieved a new personal best and club record time of 8.36 seconds in the 60m sprint.

In a close race and an overall field of 80 competitors, Evans missed the podium by 0.03 seconds.

Dorchester Athletics Club’s Lisa White expressed her delight for the duo after their training endeavours paid off.

She told Echosport: “It really was a fabulous day. The girls train three times a week – core, track and beach training – to get themselves to these competitions. They really do work so hard.

“In Katie’s 60m races there were 66 girls to race against, she came sixth and just missed the bronze for the south west. She also had a PB and broke another club record.

“Her times still get her into the category for the Sheffield nationals next month.

“Molly raced against 32 other girls, getting the bronze in the south west region.

“Dean Exton, their coach, is thrilled at what the girls are achieving at such young ages and we look forward to the upcoming event.”

Evans and White will next be in action in Sheffield on Saturday, February 23-24.
