RAMSBOTTOM UNITED 2

Evangelinos 68, Gooden 90+5

WEYMOUTH 2

McCarthy 37, Brooks 83

WEYMOUTH conceded a 95th-minute equaliser as Ramsbottom United recovered to draw 2-2 in a thrilling finish to their FA Trophy second round clash at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium.

Both sides missed chances in a hectic opening quarter of the game before Terras' captain Jake McCarthy headed home Brandon Goodship's free-kick for a 1-0 half-time lead.

Plucky eighth-tier Ramsbottom levelled midway through the second half through Nic Evangelinos before Calvin Brooks looked to have deservedly won it for the visitors with a calm finish.

But a determined Rams scored a last-gasp equaliser as Iyrwah Gooden finished from Tom Kennedy's delivery to sensationally force a replay on Tuesday night.

Weymouth, who must now play a fourth cup replay of the season, made four changes from the side that beat Tiverton Town 2-1 last time out.

Stephane Zubar, Abdulai Baggie, Brandon Goodship and Harry Baker all came in at the expense of Jordan Ngalo, Josh Wakefield, Ben Thomson and Yemi Odubade.

Zubar returned from suspension, while Goodship came back from an ankle problem.

Newly-signed Odubade was dropped to the bench alongside Ngalo, while Thomson and Wakefield did not make the matchday squad through illness.

Competing in the biggest cup tie in their history, Ramsbottom began brightly and wasted an early opportunity when Kyle Jacobs headed wide a presentable chance inside the box.

Weymouth were able to settle after Jacobs' early miss and set about commanding possession before Goodship struck a free-kick at Ramsbottom goalkeeper Sam Ashton.

Showing no signs of nerves in what was a momentous occasion, the hosts saw Tom Kennedy draw a sublime fingertip save from Terras' gloveman Lloyd Thomas.

Thomas was in brilliant form and denied Jason Carey when one-on-one after Eddie Moran's incisive through ball before Evangelinos fired wide from the rebound.

Weymouth again soaked up the Rams' pressure and responded in typically clinical fashion as McCarthy opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season.

Prolific goalscorer Goodship turned provider for his captain, swinging a free-kick to the back post where McCarthy stooped to nod home past Ashton into the bottom corner on 37 minutes.

Shortly before half-time a now dominant Weymouth had the ball in the back of the net through Baker, only to see the linesman flag for offside before the break.

Prior to kick-off, a total of 26 places separated the sides in the football pyramid but the Rams continued to scheme a way back into the game, Gooden coming on for Ryan Ellison.

Goodship found himself on free-kick duties in Wakefield's absence and another pinpoint delivery found Baker at the back post, only to see his fellow forward nod wide.

Still Ramsbottom came at the Terras and Thomas proved his worth again with an alert save at his near post to deny Evangelinos.

Weymouth retaliated when Brooks latched onto Baker's pass but aimed his attempt straight at the waiting Ashton.

Ramsbottom were fortunate not to concede a bizarre goal when a clearance smacked against Goodship, before the Terras' top scorer was fabulously denied by Ashton, the keeper then blocking Abdulai Baggie's shot on the follow-up.

Ashton's heroics proved crucial when Evangelinos applied a deadly finish to sweep home Kennedy's corner with 22 minutes left.

As time ticked down, Weymouth claimed what looked to be victory when Brooks popped up with his fifth goal of the season, running onto a through ball and beating Ashton with aplomb to send the travelling Terras' support into delirium.

With just seconds of normal time remaining, the Rams continued to press and caused mayhem in the away defence when a cross ricocheted around the area before Weymouth cleared.

Referee Martin Woods played on deep into added time and Ramsbottom sent Ashton up in the dying embers to try and force a replay, but it was substitute Gooden who came up trumps, pouncing to fire past Thomas and take Weymouth back to the Bob Lucas Stadium.
