MID GLOS 67

DORCHESTER ladies stormed into the Yetton Trophy quarter-finals for the first time after seeing off Gloucestershire qualifiers Mid Glos.

The match, played at the neutral Somerset venue of Taunton Deane, was delayed by 30 minutes due the Mid Glos team being held up on the M5, and once the game got under way both sides took time to settle.

After the four rinks had completed five of their scheduled 21 ends, the scores were locked at 15-shots apiece.

Mid Glos then appeared to take control of the game as they established a healthy 34-21 lead at the halfway point, but in a devastation response, Dorchester turned things around over the next quarter making a nett gain of 24 shots to post a welcome 60-49 advantage.

Louise Woodrow, Jan Nicholas, Sue Maggs, and skip Di Lunn who trailed 4-12, epitomised the fighting comeback, when moving to a strong position at 20-15.

The Lunn rink then ran out 26-23 winners at the finish to Mid Glos rink skipped by Margaret Mc Coll.

Julie Corbin, Isabelle Addison, Barbara Redpath and Dorchester skip Freda Yates played out a battle royal against the rivals skipped by Pauline Gunn.

From a good opening score of seven shots to two, Yates fell away to 11-7 down, before fighting back to finish a single shot behind at 16-15.

An equally competitive exchange saw Margaret Cullip and her supporting rink of Ros Gwatkin, Joan Narraway and Ladies Captain Linda Hill reach a six-all position after 10 ends, against Mid Glos skip Maryan Pye, with all but one end being decided by a single shot.

Cullip eventually posted another fine rinks victory at 18 shots to 13.

Dorchester’s fourth rink skipped by Barbara Lacey took the spoils and top rink as she led her fellow bowlers Ronnie Stevenson, Carol Baker, and Sue Jennings to a dominant 27-15 result.

Gill Fry and her Mid Glos team-mates unable to respond to the Dorchester player’s accurate bowling.

The latest win over the Gloucestershire outfit takes the county town side into the last eight with a tie against Devon side Torquay, who defeated Honiton 84-63.

The match promises to be a close run affair with Dorchester determined to continue their great Yetton campaign.

Victory over Torquay could see a semi-final against another Dorset side – Poole Dolphin – who have first to overcome Riverain in their quarter-final game.
