DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson admits possessing two quality goalkeepers in Kingsley Latham and Nick Hutchings is giving the Magpies’ manager a selection headache.

Latham has excelled in his debut Magpies’ season while on loan from Southampton before the experienced and highly-thought of Hutchings was lured from Poole Town.

Dorchester have recently let Mike Edgar join Portland United and Thompson conceded he faced a difficult decision over which gloveman to pick at Chesham following the 6-0 loss to Farnborough, for which Latham was the custodian.

He told Echosport: “They’re in competition, they both know that. As a manager you have to make decisions and it was a tough one after the 6-0 defeat.

“That can affect a goalie because of the nature of the defeat, psychologically.

“I made the decision (for Chesham) and Kingsley responded with two good saves in a clean sheet which will do his confidence no harm.

“For a goalkeeper, a 6-0 defeat is something that is probably the worst because everyone will say ‘what happened there, why did you let in six?’ It’s important to bounce back, which he did.”

Hutchings’ sole appearance for Dorchester to date came against former side Poole in a 1-0 win but Thompson was tight-lipped on whether he would again give Hutchings the nod against his former side on Saturday.

He said: “Discussions between players are kept between us. Nick obviously wants to play, that’s the reason he’s at the club, and so does Kingsley.

“It’s not an easy decision for the manager to make. I made that decision to play Nick against Poole and I don’t regret that at all.

“We have two goalkeepers competing for that number one spot and I have to look at all things that are concerned with that.”
