OAKMEADIANS 45

WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 10

WEYMOUTH & Portland coach Simon Litster said his players need to do a bit of soul-searching after they went down 45-10 at Oakmeadians in Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts One South action.

Despite an early try, which Litster later said might have been a poisoned chalice, the Seahorses were well beaten by the end, and further hampered by injuries and a sin bin for Tim Comben.

The Seahorses elected to play with the wind in the first half but could not capitalise upon it.

Weymouth scored after two minutes when Lewis Richards offloaded to Luke Beynon, who fed Lewis Allan to go over with a successful conversion added.

Oakmeadians were able to counter-attack very effectively however, and took the lead with two quick converted tries after 15 minutes.

Weymouth pulled it back to 14-10 via a penalty but that was as good as it would get for the rest of the match.

Weymouth cleared a kick, prompting a counter from the home side which ended with an unconverted try, to make the half-time score 19-10.

The visitors were then buffeted by the wind in the second half, and Oakmeadians quickly began to take advantage.

A drive from a line-out allowed them to cross over for a converted try.

Comben then received a yellow card for obstructing a player who kicked ahead.

Oakmeadians made their superiority count swiftly.

With injuries stacking up, as well as just two substitutes, the Seahorses proceeded to concede three tries in the last 15 minutes.

Harry Boccio suffered a pinched nerve in his neck, which knocked the squad as they attempted to try and salvage something from the match.

Yet they could not stop the advance of Oakmeadians and were condemned to a final score of 45-10 for Weymouth to end what Litster described as an afternoon to forget.

Litster said: “I would sum it up as an afternoon to forget.

“We were well below par and I think all of our players need to do a bit of soul searching.

“It was pretty awful conditions, with a driving wind the length of the pitch and rain.

“We have only got ourselves to blame.

“I think we went to pieces to be honest.”

Weymouth now have a bit of a break before they host Puddletown on Saturday, February 9.
