DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson will seek urgent talks with the Magpies’ board over the feasibility of making new signings.

Thompson was thoroughly displeased after watching Dorchester lose 2-0 to Poole Town on Saturday – an eighth home league loss of the season.

Dorchester have failed to score since the 72nd minute of their 2-1 FA Trophy second round exit to Barnet, over three games ago.

And Thompson feels that recent results, particularly the 6-0 thrashing by Farnborough, have sharpened the need to make additions to his squad.

Having made striker Richard Gillespie his most recent acquisition, Thompson told Echosport of his want to bring in new signings following the derby loss to Poole.

He said: “I’ve got to look now if the board allow me to try and bring a couple in. Obviously it’s in a critical time at the moment.

“Performances like (Poole) certainly aren’t going to help you to avoid the dreaded drop.

“You could look to strengthen all areas of the pitch on (the Poole) performance, on the Farnborough performance and on others this year.

“Obviously, I have to find out if that’s possible. Certainly (Poole) and Farnborough has made me think that needs to be done.”

Dorchester have scored just seven goals in 13 league home games this season and Thompson admitted he could “seek no positives” in the aftermath of defeat to the Dolphins.

He said: “That’s nowhere near good enough. At times, we’ve capitulated and we’ve let in a lot of goals at home.

“I thought at 2-0 in that first 30 minutes we were on the cusp of that happening. I’m disappointed in all aspects. I can really seek no positives out of that.

“If the most I can seek is that we didn’t capitulate, that’s not asking a lot. The fans know it’s not good enough, the board must know, I know, the management and the players. All we can do is try and put it right in the next game.”

In a bid to reverse the Magpies’ poor home league form, which has garnered just one win, Thompson revealed he had tinkered with some aspects of the Magpies’ matchday preparation.

He said: “I tried to change a couple of things. Talk is cheap so we actually did some physical changes.

“You can’t say they didn’t work. What works, what doesn’t work? Do you carry on doing it? Do you not do it?

“We’ve played 12 games previously where it hasn’t worked so do we say it hasn’t worked after one game? I think that’s a bit premature.

“It’s not so much about what we did before the game, it’s about the performance on the pitch and that was nowhere near good enough.”
