MARK Molesley called for his Weymouth team to show their mettle in the aftermath of their 4-4 draw with the Metropolitan Police in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Brandon Goodship and Luke Robertson both scored hat-tricks, with the latter firing in late on to hold Weymouth to a single point.

Weymouth led a remarkable four times throughout the contest, including in the 86th minute after Cameron Murray seemingly won it for them, yet time and time again they were pegged back by the Police.

When asked what he said to his squad after the match, Molesley replied: “It is difficult, because we are hurting. It has ended in disappointment so we are obviously gutted.

“The good thing is we know we can fix that, we can get that right. The boys showed that they have got resolve, they can do that.

“But we have come away, it was an entertaining game, end to end there was plenty of chances and we have got to defend better.”

“There is no question about it, we have got to improve on that and I am looking for the lads now to show their mettle, show that they want to improve and they want to get better and go and show that resilience to bounce back from some of the negatives.”

Molesley praised the defenders that the club has, which saw a boost with Sam Sherring returning from injury from off the bench, while Callum Buckley made his first start following a spell out after concussion.

Molesley added: “We have got great defenders, we have got great players at the club it is just bringing it all together and making sure we show a bit more strength behind the ball.”

After Murray’s goal in the 86th minute the match had shades of the 4-3 victory over Salisbury, which will not have been lost on Steve Claridge, who was in the crowd.

When asked if this perhaps meant his side switched off, Molesley replied: “I don’t know. It was a culmination of a few things.

“We have got to concentrate, we have got to be more focused, we have got to be more balanced it was a culmination of a few things.

“Look, these are things that we can fix.

“There is enough positives out there to show that we are a good side.

“There are a few frailties that need fixing as well.”

As a result of the draw, Weymouth are six points behind league leaders Taunton Town, with two games in hand over the Peacocks.

The Terras’ will need to win those by a combined margin of six goals however, with the Peacocks having a better goal-difference.

The match saw the return of Ben Thomson from injury, as well as new signing Luke Nippard who came off the bench late on in place of Yemi Odubade.

Commenting on Nippard’s arrival, Molesley said: “Obviously we are very low in numbers at the moment and we are very fortunate to get that through, he is a good young prospect at Bournemouth.”
