WEYMOUTH boss Jason Tindall is delighted with the way striker Gavin McCal-lum is leading from the front despite his young age.

The talented Canadian ripped Northwich Victoria apart in Saturday's 2-0 win at the Wessex Stadium, scoring one and setting up the second which was fired home by Jefferson Louis.

Tindall, who kept faith with McCallum despite the returns to fitness of Stuart Douglas and Stuart Beavon, said: "Gavin has been fantastic in the last three games. He was unlucky not to get his chance before that but since he has come in he has been magnificent.

"Not only does he work his socks off but he is also looking very dangerous.

"He maybe could have had one or two more today but I am absolutely delighted for him.

"I keep telling my forwards the importance of defending from the front and over the past three games Gavin has been a great example to everyone. He has proven that hard work gets rewards and rubs off on other people."

The victory over the Vics was the Terras' first for almost a month and Tindall is now hoping they can kick on. His men travel to Grays Athletic tomorrow before hosting Crawley Town on Friday.

Tindall said: "Today was a good performance. We knew Northwich would come here and try and have a go but I thought we played at a very good tempo today. We pushed our full backs on and won the majority of second balls and could have scored a few more.

"Before the game we knew we were going to have to create our own atmosphere and lift the crowd and full credit to the boys because some of the football we played was fantastic.

"Nick Crittenden shot over from 20 yards after a 20-pass move before half-time and had that gone in it would have been an unbelievable goal.

"The fact that we also kept a clean sheet is very pleasing as well. We have done a lot of work in training on our defending and today I thought we looked very solid.

"We got close to their forwards when we had to, did all the basics correctly and overall I thought we worked hard all over the pitch.

"We now need to take that into Tuesday and Friday. We are unbeaten in our last two games and we now need to go to Grays and get another three points and then do the same against Crawley."

* Former Weymouth and current Rushden & Diamonds boss Garry Hill has been suspended from all football for two weeks by the Football Association for head-butting Salisbury City assistant manager Tommy Widdrington last month.

The punishment starts on Wednesday and when he returns to Nene Park he will have to serve a 10-match touchline ban, with five games suspended for a year.

Hill pleaded guilty to breaking Widdrington's nose at a disciplinary hearing held on Friday and will also have to pay a fine of £500.

Hill said: "Now that the hearing has taken place I wish to place on record my sincere apologies to the club and fans of Rushden & Diamonds for the distress that this has caused."
