IRATE Dorchester Town boss Steve Thompson slammed a “woeful” performance by the Magpies in their dire 1-0 Evo-Stik Southern Premier South defeat to Frome Town at the Clayson Stadium.

Goalkeeper Kingsley Latham was at fault for the winning goal, mishandling a tame Rex Mannings shot that eventually nestled in the net.

Thompson’s men were bereft of creativity and a succession of poor crosses and a lack of quality with the final ball angered large sections of the home crowd, many of whom booed at the final whistle.

Speaking to Echosport, an angry Thompson tore into his side’s display against a side languishing second from bottom in the standings.

He said: “A woeful performance - I don’t think (Frome) played particularly well but they didn’t have to.

“We only really created two chances the whole night and we conceded a really poor goal. To only create two chances at home against a Frome team that are struggling is poor.

“I can’t make excuses. I should be able to pick a team from this squad that goes and beats Frome at home, and that didn’t happen.

“It was a very poor performance from all of us and we have to take the flak on the chin.”

Thompson was irked by three specific aspects of Dorchester’s display.

“A lack of quality, desire when we did get a good ball in, and intelligence,” he said.

“If you’re asking me what we’re lacking, I think all of those three in abundance.

“It’s always one step forward and two steps back. It’s a pattern of total inconsistency. Players were well aware of how important the game was.

“I don’t know if they can handle that psychologically, but if you can’t handle that you’re not going to go far in football.

“Having got a good result on Saturday (3-2 against Harrow), if we could get a result then (this Saturday) would take care of itself on the back of two wins, but we haven’t managed to do that. I’m absolutely gutted.”
