WEYMOUTH continued their faultless form in the Clayesmore DCA Sunday Indoor League with victories over Cheselbourne and title rivals Portland Red Triangle A.

Harry Mitchell’s men now have seven wins from seven games and hold a two-point advantage over Stalbridge ahead of a potential winner-takes-all clash between the two on March 3.

In their opening game, Weymouth batted first and saw openers Jack Sapsworth (32no) and Tom Reed (18) lay an excellent foundation.

Further knocks from Sahil Dalvi (30no), Neil Walton (26no) and Manoj Somaratne (23) set an imposing total of 188-3.

However, Cheselbourne’s James Dunham scored a fine 74 to give the Seasiders a huge scare before Weymouth took the final wicket, five of which were run outs.

Rivals Portland, shorn of the absent Simon Proffitt, were then restricted to 116-4 from 12 overs as Weymouth delivered a greatly improved bowling display.

Only Ryan Price (32no) and Ollie Whisker (31) managed retirements as Walton (2-20) and Dalvi (1-24), plus a tight spell from Mitchell (0-16), set the win up.

But Mark James (2-10) proved miserly as Weymouth lost four wickets, only for Sapsworth (30no) and Walton (29no) to guide their team to the winning post.

Portland enjoyed better luck against Hazlebury Bryan, taking a 76-run win.

Price (37) and Whisker (31no) again excelled in posting 148-5 from 12 overs before Bryan were skittled for 72.
