DORCHESTER Town assistant-manager Trevor Senior has named striker Conor McDonagh as a key threat ahead of the Magpies’ Evo-Stik Southern Premier South clash with Swindon Supermarine tomorrow (3pm).

McDonagh impressed as the Marine earned a convincing 3-0 victory over Dorchester in December, scoring a sublime volley – one of 22 league goals this season.

Only Weymouth’s Brandon Goodship and ex-Magpie Toby Holmes, with 25 apiece, stand above the imposing marksman in the goalscoring charts.

And former centre forward Senior, scorer of 153 goals in 301 games for Reading, was quick to identify McDonagh as a dangerman.

He told Echosport: “When they came and played us they added one or two players to their squad from Gloucester and you could tell because they beat us hands down.

“I was very impressed with them. Conor’s in the top two strikers I’ve seen this season, obviously Brandon’s a good finisher.

“We obviously go there with a bit of confidence and will try and get a positive result.”

When asked how Dorchester may deal with McDonagh’s menace, Senior confessed the Magpies would not concentrate on one player.

Senior also suggested the Marine would be wary of Ben Seymour, who has 16 goals in 21 games for Dorchester.

“We won’t just focus on one player but we’re aware how decent he is,” Senior said.

“We’ve got a decent striker ourselves with Ben, he’s up there in the scoring charts as well.

“They’ve had one or two indifferent results, Gosport beat them 2-1 on Saturday. We’ll go there with a gameplan. We changed the system against Staines and created a lot of chances and took some.

“For me, we’ve just got to try and take points off teams around us. Although Swindon are a few places above, they’re only three points in front of us. It’s all really tight.

“It’s just a case of trying to go there and get a good result. A draw wouldn’t be a bad result, not that we’re going to try and get a draw.

“Any points at this stage of the season, with the way the league is, are going to help.”

Dorchester played a friendly against US touring side Oakwood behind closed doors on Tuesday night, emerging as 4-2 victors with goals coming from a Richard Gillespie penalty, Ross Carmichael, a trialist and Antonio Diaz.

Senior said: “It was a good work-out, they were a young side – under-19s.

“They move the ball well and it game Steve (Thompson, manager) a chance to look at some players who haven’t had a lot of minutes. A chance for them to show what they could do.

“It was better than training and everyone came through with no injuries. I think the American side enjoyed their trip to the ground and it was a good exercise.”

Billy Lowes (thigh) could be in contention while Kyle Egan is available. Brennan Camp returns after scoring on his debut Scotland Under-19s but Joe Low begins a three-match suspension.
