SUBSTITUTE Paul Hayers smashed home a brace to lead Sports to their first victory since September 8.

Last season's Dorset Senior League runners-up had only claimed two points from their previous three games going into the clash, but at Cranford Avenue on Saturday everything finally came together for them.

Chris Armstrong, Andy Cleal and Matt Jones all went close for the hosts in the first half but at the break the game remained goal-less.

Sports could have easily become frustrated but instead they kept their heads and were soon rewarded for their dominance after Okeford enjoyed their best spell of the game.

The breakthrough finally came on 70 minutes when Jones found the net after a series of shots had been blocked by the visiting defence.

The relief was clearly evident and in the latter stages Sports began to play with a lot more freedom. Hayers latched on to a through ball by Andy Mason and doubled the advantage before he then wrapped up the result with a well-taken third.

Winning boss Gary Bailey said: "We have been playing well and threatening to score goals since the start of the season.

"It looked like it was going to be the same again today as we wasted some good chances in the first half But we knew if we stayed patient and kept playing the way we were the goals would come, and in the end we were fairly comfortable winners.

"It is a relief to get three points and hopefully we can now build on this performance and get our season going."
