TINTINHULL 1

CHICKERELL UNITED 8

MIDFIELDER Ashley Smith scored a fine hat-trick as Chickerell ran riot at Tintinhull in the Dorset Senior League.

The Chickens were accused of wasting chances in their previous game against leaders Easton United, which ended in a 1-1 draw, but in Yeovil they were rampant.

The visitors went 5-0 up within the first 20 minutes. Smith opened the scoring before James Reeve, Nick Etherington, Matt Dench and Andy Hall all struck to inflict an instant massacre on to their stunned opponents.

Many teams would have completely capitulated under that pressure but to their credit Tintinhull stemmed the tide and got one back before the break through Nick Trevett.

At the start of the second half the hosts continued to try and pressure but United went on to net three more with Smith completing his hat- trick and Reeve grabbing his second.

Winning assistant manager Maurice Welch said: "For the first 20 minutes we were outstanding. We created loads of chances and took five of them and it was very pleasing.

"Some of our one-touch football at times was fantastic but to be fair to them they kept going and got one back five minutes before the break.

"They then had a good 15-minute spell in the second half without creating many chances but we ended up getting back on top and scoring three more.

"The pick of our goals was Nick's in the first half. It came from a one-touch move that went from back to front and when it came to Nick he flicked it over his head and volleyed it into the top corner from 25 yards. It was a great goal.

"There was a happy mood all-round in the camp this week and hopefully this result will now kick-start our season."
