DORSET trainer Harry Fry conceded that "bragging rights" in his household now belong to his wife Ciara after Misty Whisky came with a storming late run in the EBF Stallions/TBA Mares' Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Sandown.

One of three runners in the two-mile Listed prize for the Seaborough handler, the 5-1 shot found an extra gear on the climb to the line when coming between Silver Forever and Farne before going on to score by a length.

Fry said: "The bragging rights belong to Ciara as she thought this one would win and I thought Whitehotchillifili so I'm not going to live it down.

"We are delighted, but we couldn't really split them. We knew Misty Whisky would handle the conditions and Whitehotchillifili did a bit too much and that cost her chance, plus she didn't have the ideal prep because of the flu vaccinations she only ran 15 days ago.

"Sean (Bowen) said he got caught in a pocket for longer than he wanted, but it probably worked out in his favour.

"We will enjoy this today, as it is a big prize for her."

Not even a 13lb hike in the weights could prevent Commodore from backing up his win at Warwick after the Venetia Williams-trained seven-year-old claimed a front-running three-and-a-half-length victory in the Matchbook "Best Value Exchange" Handicap Chase.

Joint-owner Caroline Watson said of the 3-1 scorer: "That was good, it was an unbelievable round of jumping. To have a Saturday winner at Sandown is quite a nice surprise.

"Luckily Hugh's (Nugent, jockey) 7lb claim helped take some of the weight off.

"Sarah (Graham, joint-owner) and I have had horses with Venetia for about 15 years, we really like the way she trains them.

"Because he is grey Hughie Morrison said on the way in he looks like the next Desert Orchid!"
