DORCHESTER Town pummelled Merthyr Town 7-1 away as manager Callum Brooks recorded his first Evo-Stik Southern Premier South win since joining the club.

Antonio Diaz and Noah Keats hit braces, while Luke Winsper, Tom Blair and Ben Seymour also scored on a mesmerising night for the relegation-threatened Magpies who climbed into 15th.

Sam Jackson had earlier scored an own goal.

Brooks named an unchanged side to the one that began the 2-2 draw against Farnborough on Saturday.

Dorchester’s only change was on the bench, where new recruit Nathan Walker took his place in a five-man dugout after signing dual-registration papers with Hamworthy United on Sunday.

Back in November, the two sides played out a drab 0-0 draw at the Clayson Stadium but there was no sign of this game panning out in the same fashion as Dorchester came zipping out of the blocks.

In the eighth minute, Dorchester were ahead as Winsper buried his eighth goal of the season to start the ball rolling for Dorchester.

Brooks’ men held Merthyr at bay for large parts of the first half and the hosts blinked first when Ryan Prosser replaced Matthew Harris after just 28 minutes.

Dorchester continued to prove a threat and winger Blair grabbed his second goal in two games just before half-time.

Merthyr did have a good chance to halve the deficit two minutes into added time but Owain Jones could only fire wide of Nick Hutchings’ goal at the far post.

But the Martyrs did haul themselves back into it in the 61st minute when the Magpies’ defence got themselves into a tangle and Jackson bundled past Hutchings.

Merthyr looked the more dangerous side at this stage and Jamie Veale passed up a glorious chance to level when shooting wide at the far post.

Just 60 seconds after that miss, Diaz punished the midfielder with his ninth goal of the season to re-establish a two-goal lead.

Worse was to come for a beleaguered Merthyr, who conceded a fourth to sub Keats’ first goal for the Magpies and lost Prosser to injury, going down to 10 men.

It was the first of four goals in 10 minutes as Diaz grabbed his second to make it five before Keats hit his double and the Magpies’ sixth.

Seymour still had time to notch a seventh late on for his 18th Dorchester goal this season as the Magpies moved two points above the drop zone with a scarcely-believable scoreline.
