DORCHESTER Sports are confident of making it three wins from three against Portland United Reserves in their Dorset Premier League derby tomorrow (3pm), according to boss Ashley James.

Sports have beaten Wareham Rangers 8-1 and ended a dreadful run of results at St Mary’s Field by defeating Bridport Reserves 2-1 last time out.

And James is now targeting a further upset to the struggling Blues at the Clayson Stadium, with Justin Faulkner’s men winless in eight games since a 5-3 win over Blandford in January.

He told Echosport: “We’d rather go into it winning a few games than be on the back of some defeats.

“Confidence is as high as it’s been all season. It’s nice going into a derby with a couple of results behind us and fingers crossed we can make it three out of three.

“(Portland) have got some good young players so it definitely won’t be an easy game and we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.

“We’re not sure what sort of side they’ll bring down but we’ve got some experience that we’ll hope can get the win for us.”

Despite the fixture being a derby, James played down any notions of a feisty affair.

He said: “We’re not that sort of team, we try and get the ball down and play football, especially on the 3G at home.

“Hopefully it won’t get to that – the 3G’s quite hard to do that. It’s not really the surface you want to be going too hard (into tackles) on. We haven’t had a red card this season and our discipline’s pretty good.”

Sports’ Pat Thomas, Jamie Rawlings and Josh Lucas all return.
