WIMBORNE SECONDS 10

WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 50

WEYMOUTH & Portland put in a brilliant performance to easily swat aside Wimborne Seconds in the Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts One South.

Billy Hayne was named man of the match against his old side as Weymouth dismantled the Minstermen.

Chris Norton bagged the first try when Wimborne dropped a pass and Norton got a boot to it, chased it and scored to the left of the post, which was then converted after eight minutes.

The second came when Alex Toms put a good cross kick in towards Khylo Farley, who ran round and scored close to the posts for another converted try.

The Seahorses then saw a penalty hit the post, which rebounded into the arms of the visitors, who kept pressing, allowing Toms to kick a successful penalty.

This made the score an impressive 17-0 to Weymouth with just 17 minutes gone.

However, Wimborne began to pressure the visitors and earned their reward when they provoked a mistake from Weymouth and capitalised by scoring an unconverted try.

Two minutes later, the scoreline was again enhanced by the visitors, as Dave Oaksford picked up from the back of a scrum and drove over for a converted try.

There was a further try before half-time through Andy Bowditch, after a tap penalty from Lewis Allan allowed Bowditch to crash over.

After the break, Weymouth picked up from where they left off and this time Tim Comben was the man who scored the try.

Wimborne replied with an unconverted try in reply, but Weymouth continued to dominate.

Adam Lloyd-Edwards, on his return to the side from an injury, added further gloss with a score to make it 43-10.

The scoring was finally wrapped up when Comben grabbed his second converted try of the day for the Seahorses.

Weymouth coach Simon Litster praised his team’s eagerness after the result.

He said: “We did have a weakened team and we were a bit concerned, but everybody that stepped up played well.

“It was really good to see the team eager and firing from the go.

“They were eager and keen to get going which was great to see.

“We scored seven tries and converted six of them which was encouraging, plus a penalty.”

Weymouth & Portland travel to Bournemouth Thirds on Saturday, April 13.
