DORCHESTER Town boss Callum Brooks hailed right-back Kyle Egan’s performance in the Magpies’ last-gasp 3-2 win at Walton Casuals as “unbelievable”.

Egan, who for the first half of this season had struggled to replicate the shining form of the previous campaign, produced arguably his best display in the current term against the Stags.

The former Exeter City defender was in full attack mode on Saturday, raiding down the right at will and playing a key role in two of the Magpies’ goals, providing the cross from which the decisive own goal was scored in the 94th-minute.

Egan, who with 98 career Magpies appearances is edging closer to his century, also forced Dorchester’s second goal as his parried shot was tapped home by Antonio Diaz.

Speaking to Echosport, Brooks admitted overlapping full-backs had been a theme in training prior to the contest.

He said: “I don’t often single players out but I think he was unbelievable. Some of his defending one-on-one was impeccable against a really lively winger.

“It was highlighted their dangers were wide and Kyle stood up. He was attacking with such quality and he’s nearly made a couple of goals.

“(Nathan) Walker got just underneath one, the defender got a glance on it when Walker was just about to nod one in at the back post.

“(Kyle) got his reward. You’ve got your full-back overlapping in the 94th minute which is something we worked on training.

“That little bit of fortune went our way, which I find it does. You make your own luck in football.”
