ROYSTON Davies will hand third-choice stopper Lee Cleal the gloves in tomorrow's Les Phillips Cup clash with Minehead at St Mary's Field (3pm).

The former Lyme Regis striker has not appeared between the posts for the Bees since pre-season but Davies is keen for him to be prepared for a call up.

However, the Bridport man-ager has reassured resident keepers Lee Cuff and Mark Cuff that their places are not in immediate danger.

"We have three goalkeepers in the club at the moment and Lee Cleal will be starting for the first team on Saturday," said Davies.

"I intend to play him in all cup matches, both first team and reserve team, so that when we need him he will be ready.

"Lee is also there as a little reminder to the two resident goalkeepers that their places have to be earned."

Bridport will be hoping to bury memories of last weekend's second half display against Hengrove Athletic at Norton Lane.

The Bees were comprehensively outplayed and showed an inability to adapt as the home side improved after the break.

And in a bid to guard against a repeat performance Davies is keen to regain the services of Darren Stewart and Paul Fellows, who were on holiday last week.

However, Stewart was injured when he left and will need to prove his fitness before tomorrow.

Minehead have won four and lost four of their nine league fixtures to date, which is a huge improvement on last season when they finished rock bottom with just seven wins in 42 attempts.

And Davies is expecting his men to be given a competitive workout by the North Somerset outfit.

Davies said: "I know they were poor last year, their league position says that. So far this year they are on a par with us so it should be an interesting encounter."

If Bridport lose the clash they will have crashed out of the FA Cup, FA Vase and Les Phillips Cup at the first hurdle this season.

That is a record that is unlikely to boost morale in the St Mary's Field camp although could lighten the burden on the fixture secretary come April.
