JOSH Clark was victorious in the Weymouth & District Table Tennis League tournament at Westfield College.

Clark held off Will Joliffe to win the Division One singles title, but Joliffe earned revenge in the Division One doubles with playing partner Moses Lewis as the pair defeated Clark and Roger Lovell in the final.

Ollie James beat Ethan Clark in the Division Two singles, while Eddie Chapman and Derek Shalliday beat Jess Moggeridge and Thierry Roy in the Division Two doubles.

Ethan Bingham beat Pete Anderson in the Division Three singles, before teaming up with Joseph Bingham to beat Eric Chalker and Anderson in the doubles.

There were 30 participants in the Open Handicap which was won by young Sophie Storey, whilst Jolliffe lost out to James in the Junior Handicap final.

The evergreen Pete Anderson took the Veterans’ Handicap spoils after beating Roger Lovell in the final.

It was immediately apparent that the youngsters had benefited from the ongoing, regular coaching sessions run by Andy Millar and ex-England international Matt Ware as they played some excellent matches and won a majority of the competitions.

Millar said: “It was a good weekend for the schools with Wey Valley, All Saints and Budmouth winning all of the divisional titles for the first time I can remember.”

Prizes were awarded by Malcolm Smith, chairman of the Preston club, who congratulated everyone for contributing to another really outstanding event.
