UPWEY & BROADWEY 7

SWANAGE T&H RES 1

UPWEY and Broadwey confidently thrashed Swanage Town and Herston Reserves with Oscar Preece grabbing a hat-trick in their 7-1 win in Division One of the Dorset Football League.

Jack Brown also grabbed a brace, while Tom Cherry and Adam Hangar added goals.

Upwey started poorly and soon went a goal down after a strike from Florinel Bujour, after a long ball up saw him race through and slot a shot past Harry Reynolds in the Upwey goal after five minutes.

Upwey soon equalised through Brown’s first strike of the afternoon, after he was put through brilliantly by Preece.

Preece and Cherry then added two further goals as Upwey eased to a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes on the clock.

The link-up play was allowing the Upwey attack to flow to devastating effect, with Swanage unable to deal with the raids forward.

Brown made the match safe with his second with just 29 minutes on the clock.

Preece then wrapped up the scoring for the first half with 35 minutes gone.

Preece secured his hat-trick shortly after the resumption of play at the start of the second half.

Substitute Hangar hit a first-time shot that was parried by the Swanage goalkeeper straight back to Hangar who duly made no mistake and Upwey proceeded to see out the match from there.

Upwey boss Steve Reynolds said: “It could have been more to be honest.

“It was just one of them, we won 3-2 away at Allendale the week before and I was really disappointed with the lads.

“We had been playing with a bit of a swagger and we were really flat down there but we certainly turned it back on against Swanage.

“We played very well.”

Upwey then followed it up with a fantastic 4-1 victory over Portland United A.

It was Preece again taking the plaudits, scoring an eight minute brace in the first half.

Derek Wall, formerly of the Portland United Reserves, struck in the second minute, while Will Walden scored a fourth after 38 minutes to round off a brilliant attacking display during the first half.

The results see Upwey up to fourth in the table, just three points behind Merley Cobham Sports Reserves in second.

However, a title tilt is all but mathematically out of reach, with Upwey 15 points behind leaders Sturminster Marshall with five games of the season left to play.

Upwey travel to Boscombe Polonia on Saturday.

Upwey and Broadwey (against Swanage): H Reynolds, R Walden, Sapsworth, Roberts, J Walden, Cherry, Otton, Allen, W Walden, Preece (Hangar 53), Brown (Norman 53).
