INCOMING Dorchester Bowls Club president Barry Hubbard has presented a cheque for more than £3,000 to Weldmar Trust.

Every year the president elect of Dorchester Bowls Club nominates a charity which is to be the beneficiary of the president’s fund-raising efforts during his tenure of office.

Barry Hubbard, club president for 2018/19, chose the Joseph Weld Hospice as his charity and Hubbard and his wife Sandra have worked tirelessly with club members to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

At the end of his presidency Barry, accompanied by Sandra and club treasurer Margaret Dunn, visited and toured the hospice then presented a bumper cheque for £3,053.32 to Emily Fisher of Weldmar Trust, who is the person responsible for fundraising.

This generous donation was very gratefully received by Fisher who said that it would be used in Weldmar’s general fund.

This money raised was by donations from club members made during the holding of a large number of events, which included bowls fun days, raffles, coffee and cake mornings and collections, to mention just a few.

Also, a major contribution was raised via a very successful bowls afternoon which was organised and funded by club members Pat and Marlyn Bickel of Dorchester Timber.

Well done Barry and all the club members who contributed so generously throughout the year.
