BRIDPORT 2

Legg OG 19, Andrews 90+2

A SECOND-half collapse saw Bridport fall 4-2 away at Wellington in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

The Bees had led after 19 minutes through a Tim Legg own goal, but were pegged back by the Tangerines through a Joe Chamberlain brace plus goals from Jack Bryant and Lewis Pocock, while Kameron Andrews scored a late consolation for Bridport.

Bridport also had Chris McGrath sent off in the 69th minute for a foul on Conor Bryant.

Bridport had a great first half, and began with Ed Butcher volleying an effort at Josh McLean in the Wellington goal early on.

The Bees got their reward for pressing well through Sam Clark, and forced the error when Legg made a pass back to McLean who could not reach it and saw it roll into the net.

Numerous other chances came through Leighton Thomas, who drove through the middle and brought a great save from McLean.

Butcher also saw an effort smothered when one on one by McLean and Condliffe was also foiled by the Wellington shot-stopper but they could not extend their lead before the break.

The second half began with the Tangerines starting the comeback, when Bryant saw a header hit the post but drop over the line.

Chamberlain added his first five minutes later, when he turned in a Joe Wylie cross.

McGrath was then harshly sent off after a collision on 69 minutes, to further add to the Bees’ misery.

Chamberlain secured his brace when he turned in another low cross, before Wylie squared a ball for substitute Pocock to fire in.

With the last kick of the game, Andrews drove forward and played a great one-two with Mark Salter before firing in with aplomb to secure a late consolation for Bridport.

The result leaves the Bees 12th in the table with 41 points from 34 games.

The Bees travel to Cadbury Heath on Tuesday (7.30pm).

Bees’ boss Adam Fricker reflected: “I think in the second half we were poor to be honest, we did not come out of the blocks and we got hit by a sucker punch in the first minute of the second half.

“It was a disappointing, frustrating afternoon for us really.”
