MARK Molesley argued that ‘everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong’ as Weymouth fell to a 1-0 defeat at Beaconsfield Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

A Charlie Losasso free-kick bounced off Weymouth goalkeeper Tom McHale’s palms and into the net, as the Terras suffered a loss in a match that, at the start of the day, could have ended in them being crowned champions.

However, Taunton Town’s 2-1 win at home to Kings Langley ensured that even had the Terras won, the title would not have been secured.

Discussing McHale’s error, Molesley said: “(It was) an uncharacteristic error from him but they happen, unfortunately goalies when you make a mistake it usually ends up in your goal so it is the harsh life of a goalkeeper.

“Like I said it just typified the day really, everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong and everything that could go in their favour went in their favour.”

However, Molesley was full of praise for the Rams, who saw their charismatic goalkeeper Ravan Constable have a brilliant match.

Molesley said: “Let’s not take anything away from Beaconsfield, they are a good side.

“They defended resolutely, they have real pace and threat on the counter.

“We did not play that well, that is down to ourselves but also Beaconsfield are a good side so they have done well as well.”

Molesley also discussed an incident in the first half, where Ben Thomson was fouled when he would have been through on goal, which only resulted in a yellow card for Jerome Ecclestone.

He also referred to a penalty shout, which looked valid, in the second half when a Brandon Goodship cross hit an outstretched arm.

Molesley said: “Like I said we did not get the rub of the green, I think everyone here knew it was a sending off, everyone here knew that was another penalty for the handball.

“We are not getting them decisions, we have not got them all season, so we will just carry on concentrating on ourselves.”

However, Molesley admitted his side were not good enough, and praised Constable’s performance in the Rams’ goal.

Molesley said: “It was a bit of a perfect storm that you saw (against Beaconsfield), a culmination of a few things.

“One, we were not good enough.

“Two, decisions that went against us, their goalkeeper arguably man of the match and us missing some gilt-edged chances which we usually put away.

“So all in all a really frustrating day for us, but one we need to react quickly from, lick our wounds, get back into training, work hard and make sure we improve for next Saturday.”

When discussing Taunton’s victory, Molesley said his side will let others look at the permutations involved in the title race.

He said: “We are not looking ahead at this or that, we will let everyone else come up with the permutations and the mathematics.

“We can only concentrate on ourselves and how we prepare for each game and how we approach each game.

“The Met (did not win), that is a positive, Taunton did and we have lost, we do not usually lose and we usually react quickly, so we are going to have to be sharp and back on it.

“We will train hard this week and try and put a few things right.”
