FIDDLEFORD ski racer Ryan Faber was the star of the show as he won the under-10s pro slalom at the GB Alpine Minis Race.

The 10-year-old topped the podium in Tignes with his time of 31.85 seconds, as he finished almost two seconds clear of his nearest challenger in the event, which is part of the 2019 GB Alpine Championships.

He did his club Ambition proud as he secured the top spot on the podium in France.

Faber said: “My run was pretty good.

“There’s no real secret to how I go so fast, that’s just the part of it I enjoy when I ski. My friends call me Ryan the Rocket and I like that nickname.

“It’s good to take part with so many other people. I was a bit surprised to see I had finished first.”

The children’s championship ran in Tignes from April 8 to 12, with more than 300 youngsters taking part across 12 different disciplines and age groups.

It followed a week of exhilarating action for the GB Delancey Alpine Championships, where some of the country’s best senior skiers took to the French slopes to battle it out.

The event is a breeding ground for the next generation of British talent, as the UK aims to become one of the top five Olympic ski and snowboarding nations by 2030.

And Faber is a shining example of the potential stars of the future.

His mother Ami added: “Ryan skied very well in the event. He races with Ambition and he just loves skiing and racing with them.

“He just loves everything about all Snowsports. He works hard at his skiing so it’s good to see him do well and his hard work pay off.”
