GUNGHO MARKETING 40

GEORGE BAR & GRILL 39

GUNGHO beat George Bar & Grill 40-39 and both teams set a fast pace right from the start. Gungho used their centre passes well to retain possession. Gungho GS, Maisie Fowler, displayed pinpoint accuracy in her shots, despite great defence from GD, Juliette Frampton.

The mid-quarters saw George utilise their vast depth of skill to combat Gungho’s attack, moving the ball well around court. Gungho’s WA, Eva Hambleton, worked well on the circle edge, providing great support to her shooters, allowing them to add to their points.

Georges’ C, Nicky Marsh, fought for every ball, retrieving some great possession from Gungho and pushing her team ahead to take the lead by a two-goal margin at the end of the third period.

Gungho managed to draw level with some remarkable interceptions and finally managed to gain a one-goal lead, just before the final whistle.

BUGLERS 39

SAINTS SECURITY 20

THIS Premier contest was slow to start, but Buglers ran out 39-20 victors over Saints Security with both teams easing into the game gently. Buglers’ height in defence was a great advantage, winning them the majority of Saints’ rebounds.

Buglers’ GD, Chloe Grier, made some jaw-dropping flying interceptions, making it difficult for Saints to maintain possession of the ball in their attacking third.

Saints’ GD, Lauren Banks, showed her skill with fast reactions and determination leading to some phenomenal turnovers for her team. Shooter, Sam Rees, made some excellent goals but it was not enough to combat Buglers’ flurry of goals.

Saints started eating into Buglers’ lead, making for an exciting final quarter, with Saints pulling out all the stops to close the gap. However, Buglers’ GK, Cat Kelly, defended well and managed to deny Saints some scoring opportunities, keeping her team in the lead and allowing Buglers to win.

Division Two

MERAKI 19

BEAMINSTER BRAVES 31

MERAKI began their 31-19 loss to Beaminster Braves with strong teamwork in the attacking circle, coupled with excellent defence from GD, Fiona Goldman-Smith and GK, Karen Edwards, denying Braves much opportunity to score.

Braves found their rhythm in the second period. Strong supportive play from C, Laura Alexander and WA, Jane Alexander, helped the team break through Meraki’s defence. Braves’ shooters made good use of their scoring opportunities and by the end of the third period, Braves had earned themselves a five-goal lead.

The final quarter saw both teams working hard to gain possession, however Braves pushed through to come out triumphant in this closely contested match.

WJNC 38

ARTIFEX B 24

WJNC sped off the starting blocks, quickly building a 5-0 lead in their 38-24 win over Artifex B.

Artifex’ C, Kath Clay, created a lot of turnover ball, disrupting WJNC’s flow but excellent defending by WJNC meant that Artifex were not able to translate this into points.

Artifex GK, Jo Carter, worked tirelessly in the circle, collecting rebounds but tight marking by WJNC in their attacking third made it difficult for Artifex to move the ball down the court.

WJNC WD, Holly Calton supported her team well, making great use of the mid-court. Artifex shooters made some excellent long-distance shots, keeping their team on the scoreboard but WJNC GK, Mailia Brown, defended well, keeping Artifex’ shooters from getting good position in the circle.

Artifex made some changes in the final quarter and were able to outscore WJNC in this period but it was not enough to bridge the gap and WJNC walked away with a well deserved win.
