WITH the league season finished the focus at Dorchester Rugby Club is on family fun with a Dorchester Select XV taking on a Surcouf Invitation XV today at 2.30pm.

Lloyd Surcouf, long-time player, benefactor and committee member at Dorchester came up with the idea for a family fun day six years ago and this year’s event promises fun for all.

Surcouf, his wife Sandy and many of his family organise and run this successful fun event, which raises much needed funds for the community club.

Club president Bob Andrews described Surcouf’s commitment, energy, drive and ambition for the club as “beyond remarkable, outstanding and truly unique.”

He went on to say that Dorchester is “built metaphorically and physically upon Lloyd’s shoulders.”

A Dorchester XV will take on a Surcouf XV consisting of former players, veterans from the club, a number of up and coming players from the current setup, visitors from other clubs and members of the Surcouf family.

There will be a bouncy castle, hog roast, outdoor bar and a fantastic atmosphere is guaranteed for all to enjoy.

After the game the fun does not stop as the game has been kindly supported by Black Cow Vodka, an award winning local company, who have donated a fantastic hamper to be raffled on the day.

All funds raised go straight back into the local community club with a highly successful youth section.

The event is free to come along and watch and all are welcome. Last year the day was held in truly appalling weather, yet still there were record amounts of club support.

This year the weather promises to be good and all supporters are welcomed.
