DANNY Aplin secured his second title in the Weymouth ADC League as he was victorious in the Knockout Cup with a 4-0 win over Andy Masters.

In a repeat of the first ever ADC final, Aplin overcame in a straight-forward contest, winning the match with a 13-dart-leg.

This was the final night of competitive darts for the ADC league before the all-important finals night.

The evening, set to take place on Saturday, April 27, will see one of the top 12 players crowned the new ADC winter play-off champion.

With a maiden win in the first ever campaign, Aplin came through five rounds to claim the Knockout Cup.

En route to the final, Aplin defeated Scott Gannon (3-0), Mel Burton (3-1), Paul Paice (3-0) and then Arnie Quinn 4-2 before defeating Masters.

Masters himself saved his best darts for the blind pairs and his semi-final tussle against runaway league leader Andrew McDermott.

An unbelievable turnaround in what looked like a forgone conclusion, as McDermott raced into a 3-0 lead and needed only one more leg to secure his place in the final.

Masters had other ideas taking each leg at a time, as he drew the tie level at 3-3 before McDermott’s nerves looked to get the better of him and snatching doubles meant Masters stepped in to take out 83 in two darts and claim a final spot.

There was early exits from a number of play-off finalists, as Simon Churchill missed three match doubles to knock Masters out in the first round.

Paul Paice won a last leg decider against Stewart Masters 3-2, and eventual blind pairs winner Mark Samways lost out 3-1 to Mel Burton.

Terry Tucker and Mark Samways won the blind pairs on the night, with every round being drawn out randomly.

It was Tucker who looked unplayable on the oche even after partnering Aplin, Andy Masters twice in the quarters and then semis before being drawn against his partner in the final.

Masters will be hoping to fare better on the finals night as him and partner Mel Burton lost a last leg decider against Tucker and Samways, with the former taking out double four with one dart left in hand to claim the pairs title.

Tucker will be one to watch in Division One when the new season starts in a few weeks.

ADC finals night is on Saturday, April 27 at the Weymouth Angling club with doors opening at 7pm and play commencing at 7.30pm.
