WEYMOUTH received some unexpected backing ahead of their 1-1 draw against Chesham United, with ex-Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas wishing them well.
The exchange came about after ex-Terra Graham Roberts teasingly asked Fabregas if he was not getting much game time, since his move from Chelsea to Monaco earlier this year.
Upon someone referencing Roberts’ Weymouth history, a cheeky offer of a trial from the Weymouth FC Twitter account saw the World Cup winner respond by saying: “Thanks guys. Good luck.”
The luck did not seem to pay off, with Weymouth being held in a difficult 1-1 draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
The remark from Roberts seemingly irritated the Spaniard however, who replied saying: “I don’t know who you are and I don’t know if I’m getting enough game time or not but I do know you won’t win anything again this season.”
Roberts retired in 1999 and spent his early career in South Dorset, initially joining Dorchester, before moving over the Ridgeway to the Terras.
Roberts was sold in 1980 for £35,000 to Tottenham Hotspur and was inducted by Weymouth into the Terras’ hall of fame last month.
