TIVERTON TOWN 0

DORCHESTER Town confirmed their Evo-Stik Southern Premier South status in style as a 6-0 mauling of 10-man Tiverton Town at the Clayson Stadium saw them beat the drop.

At times, Dorchester intoxicated their supporters with some sublime football and went into an early 2-0 lead through Tom Blair and Luke Winsper strikes.

Tiverton improved before half-time but saw Stewart Yetton fire wide from the spot early in the second half.

Tivvy captain Jamie Price then saw red for dissent before Ben Seymour’s penalty made it 3-0.

Dorchester turned on the ignition boosters after Nathan Walker bundled home for 4-0 as exciting, intricate moves led to Sam Jackson and Dom Panesar-Dower scoring superbly, the latter a memorable 20-yard half-volley.

Dorchester made one change to the side that was cruelly beaten 1-0 at Kings Langley in the 93rd minute as Billy Lowes was replaced in midfield by Winsper.

There was also just one change on the bench as Josh Williams made way for Ben Morris, who was recalled from Bridport’s squad to face Brislington.

Tiverton, meanwhile, were without the talismanic Landricombe brothers Levi and Michael with the former a scorer of 20 league goals this season.

The Yellows could only name two subs on the bench, including player/coach Scott Rogers.

With Dorchester needing to match 20th-placed Walton Casuals’ result to ensure safety, the Magpies began in perfect fashion.

Centre-back Walker showed superb vision to fire a raking crossfield ball into space for Blair who beat Ben Mammola for pace before darting past the defender into the box and curling home delightfully from 12 yards after 103 seconds of play.

Blair’s goal lifted Dorchester immediately as the hosts dominated the opening exchanges, Antonio Diaz curling a free-kick wide – albeit with an infringement – before running 35 yards unchallenged to drag a low shot wide of the far post.

Tiverton were struggling to contain Dorchester’s wide players in warm conditions but Walker caused their next headache when a cushioned header set up Jackson to nod at goal only for Tivvy keeper Liam Armstrong to get fingertips to his goalbound effort.

Dorchester were not to be denied a second and it came after 16 minutes with a fine solo effort from Winsper, who span into space while controlling and faked to shoot twice before rolling the ball home from six yards through a crowd of bodies.

Looking for a third, Blair collected a wayward defensive header but his ambitious 25-yard curler sailed wide.

Walker picked up a booking for what seemed an accidental flailing arm on Tom Bath before a drinks break on 25 minutes disrupted Dorchester’s flow.

Bath picked himself up to guide a header wide from Steve Colwell’s cross before Price volleyed wide.

Antonio Diaz halted Tiverton’s resurgence with a pacy run and shot that Armstrong collected at the second attempt before Max Smallcombe’s wickedly deflected shot spun out for a corner that Price stabbed wide before half-time.

Tiverton’s upbeat play continued into the second half and the Yellows earned a penalty when Harry Kite was penalised for tripping ex-Weymouth striker Yetton in the box.

However, the forward dragged his shot horribly wide of the left-hand post to precede a rapid decline in fortune for the visitors.

Winsper blazed over from 20 yards before Seymour outfoxed Price when contesting a bouncing ball, the centre-back booked for hauling the striker down.

Mammola cleared the free-kick but the centre-back was cautioned when he clattered into Kyle Egan who jinked out of trouble with a Zinedine Zidane-like drag back.

Price then raged at referee Adam Baker when Winsper escaped a booking for a foul and earned a straight red for abusive language before Josh Key fired over a good chance.

However, when Harrison Davis barged an airborne Blair over in the box the floodgates opened with Seymour scoring his 21st goal in 31 games, sending Armstrong the wrong way from the spot.

Dorchester piled forward and a trickling low cross, missed by Armstrong, caused havoc in the away defence as Jordan Dyer cleared off the line into the face of Smallcombe and off Walker for 4-0.

Magpies’ boss Callum Brooks introduced Aaron Rodriguez and Panesar-Dower for Walker and Winsper amid a party atmosphere as Egan, Diaz and Kite zipped passes around, teasing a tired and irritated Tiverton back line.

Shortly afterwards Dorchester had a fifth when another technical move with a dazzling array of close passing unleashed Egan on the right to deliver a perfect cross for man-of-the-match Jackson to nod in from a tight angle.

Up to then the fifth goal was the game’s best but Panesar-Dower eclipsed the lot when he gathered Kite’s half-cleared cross, controlled and rifled a peachy half-volley with the outside of his foot into the top corner to secure safety in the perfect manner.
