WHILE Weymouth were securing the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South title with a 3-0 win over Farnborough, there was a war waging at the bottom of the table.

Six teams faced relegation danger going into the final game, with Basingstoke Town, Gosport Borough, Hendon, Walton Casuals, Tiverton Town and Wimborne Town all in peril.

However, it would be Basingstoke who made the drop after a 2-1 loss to title-chasing Taunton.

Hendon pulled off a 1-0 win against Supermarine, while Gosport drew 2-2 at Met Police.

Tivvy also cemented their status in the division with a 1-1 draw against Beaconsfield, but 10-man Wimborne had to battle to a 0-0 draw at home to Chesham.

Arguably faced with the toughest run-in, Casuals delivered a superb display to beat Merthyr 2-1 away and beat the drop.

Elsewhere, Harrow thumped Salisbury 6-0 away, while Poole thrashed Staines 7-0 to halt Kings Langley's play-off charge despite a 2-0 win over Frome.

Dorchester Town lost 3-1 at Hartley Wintney in the only dead rubber of the round.

In the National League South, Truro City were relegated on the final day despite two stoppage-time goals earning a 3-3 draw with Slough.

Moneyfields, Yate, Cinderford and Cirencester will battle it out in the play-offs for promotion to the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South or Central.
