DORCHESTER Cricket Club are looking forward to building upon the success of last year’s third place ahead of the new Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League season.

Captain James Dunham will again be leading the side this season with a tough opening day encounter with reigning champions Wimborne on Saturday (1pm) at the Rec.

Dorchester have warmed up for the season with an impressive four-wicket win over highly-rated Portland Red Triangle, restricting the visitors to 129-9 before reaching their 130 target in the 34th over.

Meanwhile the second team, skippered by Dorset Over-50s’ Dave Trotter will be aiming for promotion from County Division Three. A balance of senior players and youngsters emerging through the successful junior section will hopefully provide success.

Training for seniors is held at the Recreation Ground Weymouth Avenue every Tuesday from 6pm-8pm under the watchful eye of club coach Sean Fitzgerald. The junior section train on Sunday mornings from 10-11.30am (under-nines,11s and 13s) while the under 15s and girls train on Wednesday evenings from 6-7.30pm.

Any interested new members of any ability are very welcome. Please contact new club secretary Malcolm Stroudley on 07951352976 or junior secretary Mark Derrien on 07876635546.

n Additionally starting in mid-May the popular All Stars cricket programme for five to eight-year-olds commences on Saturday mornings for six weeks.

This is a very popular activity with a large number of youngsters already booked in.
