OUTGOING Dorchester Town chairman Matt Lucas has revealed the Magpies are yet to receive an application for the soon-to-be vacancy.

Lucas is due to step down this summer after five years at the helm, although the Dorchester businessman is keen to remain on the club’s board if required.

Lucas announced his decision in February, bringing to an end his tenure at the club after accepting the job permanently in 2014.

Speaking to Echosport, Lucas urged any interested parties to come forward and take the reins.

He said: “At this stage no-one has come forward. I mentioned a while ago I’m happy to work and continue to work for the club that I love. I felt that it was my time to step down, which I still do, and for someone to come forward.

“I know it is still early and I would ask anybody that is out there who is interested, whether that be an individual or a group of people, to make themselves known because what’s most important is Dorchester Town Football Club.

“The reason why I mentioned my stepping down was to give people time to think everything over and to hopefully come forward with new ideas and take the club forward.”

Lucas also stated that existing board members have shown no official interest in becoming chairman.

He said: “We have a board of directors and no-one has said they would like to take on the role of chairman. Again, I’m still hopeful that someone or a group of people may come forward and we’ll do what we can.

“But I’m not going to go away. It’s a massive part of my life and I’m thankful to my family for allowing me to give the time and effort I’ve been able to do.

“I’ve said right from the start if the new person who comes in wants me to be on the board or part of the club in some other way, I’ll be pleased to serve the club I love.

“Equally, if it’s not right for me to be part of a potential new format going forward, then so be it. The club must come first and that’s what’s most important.”
