DAZZLING Dorset secured a comprehensive double victory over Wales in their opening round of Unicorns T20 Group Four fixtures at Pentag.

Two wickets for ever-improving paceman Brad Currie, backed up by Michael Porter’s unbeaten 61 launched the visitors to a five-wicket success in the first contest.

And the margin of victory grew in the second rubber as Jigar Naik and Josh McCoy each claimed two scalps before Sam Young crunched 66 from 39 balls as Dorset sailed to a bruising seven-wicket win.

Wales elected to bat first in the opening encounter but were quickly undone by Currie’s 2-19 as captain Samuel Pearce (9) and Prem Sisodiya (1) fell cheaply.

Callum Taylor (46) rebuilt alongside Oscar Kolk (25) in a 73-run stand for the third wicket until Somerset leg-spinner Max Waller (1-23) ousted the former.

Cameron Herring bludgeoned 24 from 15 balls late on in a rapid 40-run partnership with Thomas Bevan (15) as Wales made 139-5 from their 20 overs.

Young (28) was the chief aggressor in reply, firing three fours and two sixes from 14 balls until Kazy Szymanski (1-22) snared the Somerset Academy prospect.

Porter shared 58 with Alex Eckland (28) in guiding the away side home after captain Luke Webb (1), Felix Organ (14) and Ed Ellis (1) came and went.

Dorset’s tight bowling again proved fruitful in the second match with Wales number eight Dan Lezar (25no) top-scoring as Taylor (20), Pearce (19) and Sisodiya (17) all wasted good starts in their innings of 135-8.

Former Leicestershire off-spinner Naik (2-25) impressed once more, while Waller (1-18), Josh Digby (1-29) and Currie (1-27) backed up McCoy’s 2-33.

Young remained in belligerent mood, plundering five fours and five sixes after Porter (1) was run out having faced just two balls.

Dorset were well-placed at 95-2 despite losing Young to Pearce (2-30) and Webb (32) carried on the opener’s good work before becoming Pearce’s second victim at 111-3.

Young Hampshire talent Felix Organ (23no) then smacked a six to win the game as Dorset made the perfect start to their T20 campaign.
