YEOVIL TOWN LADIES 0

CHELSEA WOMEN 8

YEOVIL Town Ladies suffered their biggest defeat of the season as a homecoming to Huish Park was ruined by an 8-0 loss to reigning champions Chelsea in the Women’s Super League.

The Glovers were looking to secure a victory that would have eradicated their minus points tally after a 10-point deduction for financial difficulties was issued to the Somerset club this season.

But the Blues quickly snuffed out any chance of a positive result as Lee Burch’s side endured a torrid half.

Bethany England’s calm finish from Adelina Engman’s cross handed Chelsea a fourth-minute lead before Erin Cuthbert doubled the visitors’ advantage on 15 minutes.

Cuthbert then turned provider for England who stooped bravely to convert a diving header past Yeovil keeper Megan Walsh.

Chelsea had their second in three minutes when Engman beat Walsh from a tight angle and the Blues made it 5-0 at half-time when England notched a first-half hat-trick.

Looking to offer stouter resistance in the second half, Yeovil lasted just six minutes until Cuthbert bagged her brace when finishing a one-on-one situation.

And there was still time for substitute Fran Kirby to fire a quick brace as Yeovil conceded eight goals for the first time this campaign.

Yeovil remain bottom while Chelsea stay favourites for third place with one game remaining.

The Glovers wrap up their season at Dorchester against Birmingham City on Saturday (12.30pm).
