WEYMOUTH and Portland Cruising Association’s maiden cruise of the summer was a resounding success.

Seven boats sailed to the Solent and spent two days in East Cowes.

Chris and Tess Reid in Monterey and Patrick and Jacquie Crawley in Minnehaha had left earlier to take part in a Hallberg Rassey rally before meeting up with the other boats who left Weymouth and spent a night in Studland Bay.

A pontoon lunch party, visits to Osborne House and the Boat Museum and an enjoyable social evening in the The Lifeboat pub made for an excellent weekend.

Boats returned to Weymouth at different times with some spending a night in Studland again but all were back in Weymouth in time for the club night at Castle Cove Sailing Club.

Assistant cruising officer, Chris Reid, made the most of everyone’s enthusiasm after a good weekend and started recruiting boats for the next venture – a cruise across the Channel at the end of the month.

In the meantime Tuesday evenings continue for members to get together to share plans and compare notes from their sailing trips.
